Every crypto trade you make has a tax. Not from the government — from the exchange. And unless you have sat down and done the math across every platform you use, you are almost certainly overpaying. The difference between choosing the right exchange and the wrong one can cost you $500-5,000+ per year depending on your volume. That is not a hypothetical number. That is what I calculated across my own accounts.
This is the most comprehensive exchange fee comparison available anywhere online. I have verified every number directly from each exchange's fee page, cross-checked with actual trades, and calculated real costs at multiple volume levels. Bookmark this page. Come back to it every time you are about to open a new exchange account or consider switching platforms.
How to use this page: Start with the master comparison table below. Find your trading style in the "Cheapest Exchange For..." section. Then use the real cost calculator tables to see exactly what you will pay at your volume level.
Master Fee Comparison Table: All Exchanges at a Glance
Spot Trading Fees (Default Tier)
| Exchange | Maker Fee | Taker Fee | Fee Token Discount | Effective Maker (w/ token) | Effective Taker (w/ token) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| **Binance** | 0.10% | 0.10% | BNB: 25% off | 0.075% | 0.075% |
| **Bybit** | 0.10% | 0.10% | None (VIP tiers) | 0.10% | 0.10% |
| **OKX** | 0.08% | 0.10% | OKB: 25% off | 0.06% | 0.075% |
| **Coinbase** | 0.40% | 0.60% | None | 0.40% | 0.60% |
| **Coinbase Advanced** | 0.04% | 0.06% | None | 0.04% | 0.06% |
| **Kraken** | 0.25% | 0.40% | None | 0.25% | 0.40% |
| **Kraken Pro** | 0.16% | 0.26% | None | 0.16% | 0.26% |
| **KuCoin** | 0.10% | 0.10% | KCS: 20% off | 0.08% | 0.08% |
| **Bitget** | 0.10% | 0.10% | BGB: 20% off | 0.08% | 0.08% |
| **eToro** | Spread-based | Spread-based | None | ~1.0% avg spread | ~1.0% avg spread |
| **MEXC** | 0.00% | 0.05% | None | 0.00% | 0.05% |
| **Phemex** | 0.10% | 0.10% | None (VIP tiers) | 0.10% | 0.10% |
| **Pionex** | 0.05% | 0.05% | None | 0.05% | 0.05% |
Key takeaway: MEXC and Pionex have the lowest base-tier spot fees. Coinbase Advanced and OKX (with OKB) offer the best maker rates for active traders. Standard Coinbase and Kraken are significantly more expensive unless you use their advanced/pro interfaces. eToro is the most expensive for pure crypto trading due to spread-based pricing.
Futures / Derivatives Fees (Default Tier)
| Exchange | Maker Fee | Taker Fee | Max Leverage | Funding Interval |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| **Binance** | 0.02% | 0.05% | 125x | 8 hours |
| **Bybit** | 0.02% | 0.055% | 200x | 8 hours |
| **OKX** | 0.02% | 0.05% | 125x | 8 hours |
| **Bitget** | 0.02% | 0.06% | 125x | 8 hours |
| **KuCoin** | 0.02% | 0.06% | 100x | 8 hours |
| **Kraken** | 0.02% | 0.05% | 50x | 4 hours |
| **MEXC** | 0.00% | 0.03% | 200x | 8 hours |
| **Phemex** | 0.01% | 0.06% | 100x | 8 hours |
Key takeaway: Futures maker fees are remarkably similar across all platforms at 0.02%. The differentiation is on the taker side, where MEXC leads at 0.03% and Bybit/Bitget are slightly higher at 0.055-0.06%. For limit-order-heavy futures traders, the platform choice matters less than for those using market orders frequently.

Withdrawal Fees: The Hidden Cost Nobody Talks About
This is where exchanges diverge dramatically. A single BTC withdrawal can cost 3-10x more on one exchange versus another.
Cryptocurrency Withdrawal Fees
| Exchange | BTC Withdrawal | ETH Withdrawal | USDT (TRC-20) | USDT (ERC-20) | USDT (Arbitrum) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| **Binance** | 0.0001 BTC (~$7) | 0.00028 ETH (~$1) | 1 USDT | 3.5 USDT | 0.1 USDT |
| **Bybit** | 0.0002 BTC (~$14) | 0.0003 ETH (~$1.10) | 1 USDT | 3 USDT | 0.1 USDT |
| **OKX** | 0.0001 BTC (~$7) | 0.0002 ETH (~$0.75) | 0.8 USDT | 2.5 USDT | 0.1 USDT |
| **Coinbase** | Dynamic (network) | Dynamic (network) | N/A | Dynamic | N/A |
| **Kraken** | 0.00015 BTC (~$10) | 0.0025 ETH (~$9) | 1 USDT | 2.5 USDT | N/A |
| **KuCoin** | 0.0002 BTC (~$14) | 0.0028 ETH (~$10) | 1 USDT | 15 USDT | 0.1 USDT |
| **Bitget** | 0.0002 BTC (~$14) | 0.00025 ETH (~$0.90) | 1 USDT | 3 USDT | 0.1 USDT |
| **MEXC** | 0.0002 BTC (~$14) | 0.0003 ETH (~$1.10) | 1 USDT | 5 USDT | Free |
| **Phemex** | 0.0002 BTC (~$14) | 0.001 ETH (~$3.70) | 1 USDT | 5 USDT | 0.1 USDT |
| **eToro** | N/A (eToro Money) | N/A (eToro Money) | N/A | N/A | N/A |
Dollar amounts are approximate at BTC ~$68,000 and ETH ~$3,700. Check current prices for exact costs.
The lesson: Always withdraw via the cheapest network available. USDT on TRC-20 costs ~1 USDT everywhere. USDT on ERC-20 can cost 3-15 USDT. Arbitrum and other L2s are even cheaper where supported. If you move money frequently between exchanges or to cold storage, withdrawal fees should be a primary factor in your exchange choice.
Deposit Fees
| Exchange | Crypto Deposit | Bank Transfer | Credit/Debit Card | P2P |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| **Binance** | Free | Free (SEPA/wire) | 1.8-2% | Free |
| **Bybit** | Free | Free (most methods) | 2-3.5% | Free |
| **OKX** | Free | Free (SEPA/wire) | 2-3% | Free |
| **Coinbase** | Free | Free (ACH), $10 wire | 3.99% | N/A |
| **Kraken** | Free | Free (SEPA/wire) | N/A | N/A |
| **KuCoin** | Free | Varies by partner | 2.5-3.5% | Free |
| **Bitget** | Free | Free (SEPA) | 2-3% | Free |
| **eToro** | Free | Free (min $200) | Free | N/A |
Rule of thumb: Crypto deposits are always free. Bank transfers are usually free or very cheap. Credit card deposits carry 2-4% fees that immediately eat into your capital — avoid them unless you have no alternative.
VIP Tier Comparison: Fees for High-Volume Traders
If you trade significant volume, VIP tiers dramatically change the fee equation. Here is how the top exchanges reward volume.
VIP Tier Thresholds and Rates
| Exchange | Tier | Monthly Volume Required | Spot Maker | Spot Taker | Futures Maker | Futures Taker |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| **Binance VIP 1** | VIP 1 | $1M+/mo or 25 BNB | 0.09% | 0.10% | 0.016% | 0.04% |
| **Binance VIP 3** | VIP 3 | $20M+/mo or 250 BNB | 0.06% | 0.08% | 0.012% | 0.032% |
| **Binance VIP 6** | VIP 6 | $200M+/mo or 4000 BNB | 0.02% | 0.04% | 0.004% | 0.014% |
| **Bybit VIP 1** | VIP 1 | $1M+/mo | 0.06% | 0.08% | 0.015% | 0.04% |
| **Bybit VIP 3** | VIP 3 | $10M+/mo | 0.02% | 0.04% | 0.005% | 0.025% |
| **Bybit VIP 5** | VIP 5 | $100M+/mo | 0.005% | 0.02% | 0.00% | 0.015% |
| **OKX VIP 1** | VIP 1 | $1M+/mo or 500 OKB | 0.06% | 0.08% | 0.015% | 0.04% |
| **OKX VIP 3** | VIP 3 | $20M+/mo or 2000 OKB | 0.04% | 0.06% | 0.01% | 0.028% |
| **OKX VIP 5** | VIP 5 | $100M+/mo or 5000 OKB | 0.02% | 0.04% | 0.005% | 0.02% |
| **Bitget VIP 1** | VIP 1 | $1M+/mo or 2000 BGB | 0.06% | 0.08% | 0.014% | 0.04% |
| **Bitget VIP 3** | VIP 3 | $10M+/mo or 10000 BGB | 0.03% | 0.05% | 0.008% | 0.028% |
Key insight: Bybit has the most aggressive VIP fee reduction. At VIP 5, the futures maker fee drops to 0.00% — literally free to place limit orders on futures. OKX and Binance have a token-holding alternative to reach VIP tiers, which benefits traders who do not hit the volume thresholds but are willing to hold OKB/BNB.
Cheapest Exchange For... (By Trading Style)
Day Traders (High Volume Spot + Futures)
Winner: OKX (with OKB discount) or Bybit (at VIP 1+)
Day traders execute dozens of trades daily, mixing market and limit orders. The combined spot + futures fee structure matters most, along with execution speed and liquidity depth. OKX wins at the base tier with its 0.08% spot maker fee, while Bybit catches up quickly at VIP 1 with 0.06% maker. For pure futures day trading, MEXC's 0.00% maker / 0.03% taker is unbeatable at base tier.
| Exchange | Annual Cost at $500K/mo Volume | Annual Cost at $2M/mo Volume |
|---|---|---|
| OKX (w/ OKB) | $4,050 | $16,200 |
| Bybit (base) | $6,000 | $14,400 (VIP 1) |
| Binance (w/ BNB) | $4,500 | $16,200 |
| MEXC | $3,000 | $12,000 |
| Bitget (w/ BGB) | $4,800 | $14,400 |

HODLers (Buy & Hold, Minimal Trading)
Winner: Coinbase Advanced or Pionex
HODLers trade infrequently — maybe a few buys per month. For them, the per-trade fee matters less than withdrawal fees (for cold storage transfers) and the security/reputation of the exchange. Coinbase Advanced offers 0.04% maker / 0.06% taker, which is excellent for occasional limit-order buys. Pionex at a flat 0.05% / 0.05% is even simpler.
| What Matters | Best Exchange |
|---|---|
| Lowest per-trade cost | Coinbase Advanced (0.04% maker) |
| Cheapest BTC withdrawal to cold storage | Binance (0.0001 BTC / ~$7) |
| Most regulated / safest | Coinbase (US), Kraken (global) |
| Simplest interface | eToro (but higher spread costs) |
Futures Traders (Derivatives Focused)
Winner: MEXC (base tier) or Bybit (at VIP levels)
Futures fees are where the real volume-weighted savings happen. A full-time futures trader doing $5M+/month in volume can save $10,000+ annually by choosing the right platform.
| Exchange | Annual Futures Cost at $5M/mo (60% maker, 40% taker) |
|---|---|
| MEXC (base) | $7,200 |
| Bybit (VIP 1) | $15,600 |
| Bybit (VIP 3) | $9,000 |
| Binance (VIP 1) | $15,360 |
| OKX (VIP 1) | $15,600 |
Warning: MEXC has the lowest fees but also lower liquidity on many pairs compared to Binance, Bybit, and OKX. For major pairs (BTC, ETH, SOL), liquidity is adequate. For smaller altcoin futures, slippage on MEXC may offset the fee savings. Always check order book depth before trading large positions.

Altcoin Traders (Wide Token Selection)
Winner: KuCoin or Bitget
If you trade mid-cap and small-cap tokens, the exchange with the widest listing selection saves you more money than fee differences — because if a token is not listed, you are paying DEX fees and gas costs that dwarf any centralized exchange fee.
| Exchange | Approximate Token Listings | Altcoin Fee | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| KuCoin | 900+ | 0.10% / 0.10% (0.08% w/ KCS) | First to list many new tokens |
| Bitget | 800+ | 0.10% / 0.10% (0.08% w/ BGB) | Strong in meme coins |
| MEXC | 2,000+ | 0.00% / 0.05% | Widest selection, lower liquidity |
| Binance | 400+ | 0.10% / 0.10% (0.075% w/ BNB) | Quality over quantity |
| OKX | 350+ | 0.08% / 0.10% | Selective but deep liquidity |

Bot Traders (Automated Strategies)
Winner: Pionex (free bots + low fees) or Bybit (free bots + deep liquidity)
Bot traders execute hundreds or thousands of trades per month. Low fees and reliable execution are critical. Paying for a third-party bot ($30-100/month) on top of exchange fees makes no sense when exchanges now offer free built-in bots.
| Exchange | Bot Cost | Trading Fee | Combined Monthly Cost ($50K vol) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pionex | $0 (built-in) | 0.05% / 0.05% | $50 |
| Bybit | $0 (built-in) | 0.10% / 0.10% | $100 |
| 3Commas + Bybit | $29-99/mo | 0.10% / 0.10% | $129-199 |
| Cryptohopper + Binance | $29-129/mo | 0.075% w/ BNB | $104-204 |

The numbers speak for themselves. At $100K monthly volume, the cheapest exchange (MEXC at $20/month) costs $1,176/year less than Bybit at base tier, and $11,760/year less than eToro. At $500K volume, the annual savings from choosing the right exchange reach $4,800-56,000.
Annual Cost Comparison at $100K Monthly Volume
| Exchange | Annual Spot Cost | Annual Futures Cost | Annual Withdrawal Cost (est.) | **Total Annual Cost** |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| **OKX (w/ OKB)** | $792 | $420 | $120 | **$1,332** |

Hidden Fees Most Traders Forget
Spread Cost
Even on zero-fee exchanges, you pay the spread (difference between bid and ask price). Exchanges with lower liquidity have wider spreads that can cost more than the trading fee itself. MEXC has the lowest listed fees but can have wider spreads on less popular pairs.
Funding Rate Fees (Futures)
Futures positions incur funding rate charges every 8 hours (4 hours on Kraken). During volatile markets, funding rates can spike to 0.1-0.5% per interval. On a $50,000 position, a 0.1% funding fee costs $50 every 8 hours — $150/day. This is not an exchange fee, but it is a real cost of holding futures positions.
Conversion Fees
Some exchanges charge a conversion fee when trading between different quote currencies (e.g., converting USDT to USDC or BTC). This is typically 0.1-0.5% and is separate from trading fees.
Inactivity Fees
Most crypto exchanges do not charge inactivity fees, but eToro charges $10/month after 12 months of inactivity. If you open an eToro account for the bonus and then stop using it, close it or maintain minimal activity.
Cross-Margin Interest
Using cross-margin on futures means your entire account balance is collateral. Some exchanges charge implicit interest on borrowed margin for leveraged positions. Read the fine print before using high leverage.
How to Minimize Your Exchange Fees: A Practical Checklist
- **Use limit orders for 80%+ of trades** — Maker fees are 30-60% lower than taker fees across all exchanges
- **Buy the fee token** — Holding BNB, OKB, KCS, or BGB and enabling fee payment saves 20-25% immediately
- **Withdraw via the cheapest network** — TRC-20 and Arbitrum are almost always cheaper than ERC-20
- **Avoid credit card deposits** — 2-4% fees destroy your capital. Use bank transfers or P2P
- **Use the advanced/pro interface** — Coinbase Advanced and Kraken Pro have dramatically lower fees than the basic interfaces
- **Chase VIP tiers on your main exchange** — Consolidate volume to one platform to reach higher tiers faster
- **Check withdrawal fees before transferring** — The cheapest trading exchange might have the most expensive withdrawals
- **Compare fees annually, not per-trade** — A 0.02% difference saves $240/year at $100K monthly volume
FAQ
Which crypto exchange has the absolute lowest fees in 2026?
MEXC has the lowest listed fees with 0.00% maker and 0.05% taker on spot. However, the "cheapest" exchange depends on your trading style. For futures, MEXC also leads at 0.00%/0.03%. For spot trading with deep liquidity, OKX with the OKB discount (0.06% maker) offers the best balance of low cost and reliable execution. For the simplest low-fee experience, Pionex at a flat 0.05%/0.05% is hard to beat.
Do crypto exchange fees really matter that much?
Yes. At $50,000 monthly trading volume, the difference between the cheapest and most expensive exchange on this list is $5,700 per year. At $100,000 monthly volume, the gap widens to over $11,000 annually. Most traders focus on finding profitable strategies but ignore the guaranteed savings from fee optimization. Unlike trading profits, fee savings are certain and compounding.
Should I use one exchange or spread across multiple?
Both approaches have merit. Concentrating volume on one exchange helps you reach VIP tiers faster, reducing your per-trade cost. Spreading across exchanges gives you better altcoin access, risk diversification, and the ability to use the cheapest platform for each specific trade type. For most traders, having 2-3 active exchanges with one primary platform for volume concentration is the sweet spot.
Are zero-fee exchanges actually free to use?
No exchange is truly free. MEXC's 0.00% maker fee is real, but you still pay taker fees (0.05%), withdrawal fees, and implicit spread costs. Zero-fee offers are marketing strategies to attract volume. They are genuinely cheaper than competitors, but do not assume zero cost.
How often do exchange fees change?
Fee structures are relatively stable — major changes happen 1-2 times per year, usually announced weeks in advance. VIP tier thresholds and promotional discounts change more frequently. I update this page regularly to reflect current rates, but always verify on the exchange's official fee page before making decisions based on these numbers.
